Improving the Quality of Life for your patients

Most affected patients are completely unaware of their tooth grinding or clenching and its impact on their dental and facial comfort. They are often amazed by the results of occlusal splint therapy.

The occlusion of the teeth has a significant part to play in the aetiology of cracked teeth, broken crowns and fillings, tooth sensitivity, gingival recession, tooth wear and periodontal attachment loss. There is increasing awareness of a causal link between occlusion and the occurrence of migraine and other types of headache and neck pain.

Occlusion and associated temporomandibular joint function is a complex subject, beset with conflicting opinions and approaches to treatment.

Occlusal splints offer a simple, reversible treatment and diagnostic tool accessible to the GDP to increase the scope and predictability of routine dental care.

Key Note Speaker

Helen Harrison BDS MFGDP is an experienced GDP, principal of a private practice in Cambridge. She has constructed a team of specialist dentists and DCPs to provide accessible and comprehensive dentistry in a primary care setting. Her hands-on approach to diagnosis, care planning and treatment co-ordination has enabled the adoption of innovative, minimally invasive techniques to enhance both the outcomes and patient experience of dental treatments.

Over 500 patients have been treated with occlusal splints in Helen’s practice as an integral part of both complex and routine dental care.

Helen has lectured widely on team dynamics and business aspects of dental practice. Her pragmatic approach to the introduction of new treatment techniques is underpinned by a sound understanding of all aspects of dental practice from over 20 years involvement with the British Dental Association, Local Dental Committee and Dental Nurse Training.
